Paradox Interactive has dropped By God Alone, a major new expansion for Crusader Kings III that is focused on religion.
Playable Theocracies and the Great Schism
The biggest addition in By God Alone is the ability to play as religious rulers. These rulers can take direct control of realms, headed by archbishops or even the Pope himself. This will eventually unlock unique financial resources and political leverage.
The update also includes key historical events, such as the Great Schism, which split the Christian church into Western Catholic and Eastern Orthodox, for campaigns in the 867 game start. Additionally, players can establish breakaway faiths and custom heresies and if these new religious practices diverge too far from the mainstream church, the choice becomes falling back in line or risking conflict.
Political Puppets and Crusader Kings III’s DLC Pricing
Rulers outside the clergy also receive new political options, such as the ability to influence Cardinal appointments, establish regional Archdioceses or even puppet local church figures to act on their behalf behind the scenes.

Furthermore, faiths can dynamically shift their holy sites across the map over time, whilst major cathedrals can evolve into sacred pilgrimage locations.
Crusader Kings III: By God Alone is available now on PC for £16.99 or is available as part of the Chapter V bundle.
