Subnautica 2 Update Introduces Proximity Chat

Subnautica 2 has expanded co-op play in its latest Early Access update.

The main addition surrounding this update is the new proximity chat system. This offers the usual implementation, where audio is now distance-based, meaning players close to each other are louder and more directional, whereas the further they move apart, the more their voices will fade. If you’re not really used to proximity chat, on paper it sounds like such a simple thing but it really does add a huge amount of fun and depth to a game when implemented correctly.

Coming up next is the new revival system. Players will now enter a downed state when they run out of health, with teammates being able to revive them to continue exploration. If the downed player isn’t revived within a specific window, then they will die. Lastly, among the main features, an emote system has been introduced in order to offer communication without voice chat. There are also a few more smaller extras, such as the ability to access teammate inventories, a signal system, throwable location tags and more.
