It’s new game Friday! The day I look through some brand new games that have released today (or very recently) and pick out something that looks interesting. The goal is to help you find something new to play this weekend.
The latest title from Yacht Club Games, the studio behind the iconic Shovel Knight series, has been released. Mina the Hollower is a top-down action game which follows Mina, a whip-wielding Hollower tasked with rescuing a cursed island. Whilst it features that 8-bit visual style that Yacht Club are fantastic at, it also includes more modern features such as widescreen and more detailed animations.
Combat itself revolves around Mina’s whip, but there’s also a host of swappable sidearms and trinkets. To go alongside this, Mina can also burrow (called Hollowing) to dodge enemies or land attacks. Jake Kaufman, who also worked on Shovel Knight, has returned for the soundtrack, so you know it’ll be a banger.
